It was a quiet, starry night when Meera embarked on a journey close to her heart. She was traveling to India, eager to reunite with her beloved mother after a long time. The Chicago airport was calm and almost deserted at 2 am, adding a certain stillness to the air. As Meera boarded the flight, she noticed the soft hum of the engines and the gentle smiles of the flight crew. Settling into her seat, she found herself next to an elderly woman named Sheela, whose warm presence immediately made her feel at ease. Little did Meera know, this chance meeting would lead to a heartfelt conversation that would make the long flight feel much shorter.
Meera broke the silence, her curiosity prompting her to ask, "Sheela, where are you from in India?"
Sheela smiled warmly and replied, "I’m from Jaipur, the Pink City. What about you, Meera?"
Meera’s eyes lit up as she answered, "I’m from Mathura, the land of Krishna." They both exchanged a knowing smile, feeling an instant connection through their shared love for their hometowns.
As their conversation deepened, they began to talk about their cultures and how their lives had changed over the years. Meera reflected thoughtfully, "You know, in the last 15 years, my perceptions have changed so much. I see things very differently now."
Sheela was intrigued. "What do you mean? How so?"
Meera took a moment before answering. "Well, for example, my understanding of God has evolved. For me, God is not just a figure to pray to or ask for things. I see 'GOD' as 'ONE' who understands our hearts and actions. God is within all of us, guiding and loving us every day. We carry His light in our hearts, spreading kindness and hope. I believe that by helping others, being kind, spreading joy, and hope, we are doing God’s work. To me, true belief in God is about embodying values like love, kindness, compassion, humility, honesty, fairness, gratitude, and forgiveness."
Sheela listened intently and nodded. "That’s such a beautiful perspective, Meera. You think so deeply about these things. I love it."
Encouraged by Sheela’s interest, Meera asked, "What about you? What does love mean to you?"
Sheela paused for a moment before replying. "Love is such a vast concept, isn’t it? Philosophers often talk about different types of love: Agape, Storge, Philia, and Eros. Agape is pure and unconditional love, often seen as love for everyone or even divine love. Storge is the warm, caring love we feel for family members. Philia is the love shared between close friends, built on trust and companionship. Eros is the passionate, romantic love that often sparks between two people. Each type is special and adds its own beauty to our lives! But for me, the most important one is Agape, unconditional love. It’s the kind of love that is selfless and pure, like God’s love for humanity. I believe in doing acts with love without expecting anything in return."
Meera smiled warmly. "That’s such a noble way to think about love. I completely agree with you."
Sheela couldn’t help but ask another question. "So, Meera, what do you think is the purpose of life?"
Meera’s face lit up with passion as she answered. "For me, purpose is deeply personal. It’s about discovering your calling and using it to make a difference in the world. My purpose is to embrace my values, follow my passions and gifts, and contribute meaningfully to the lives of others. I believe that when we live with purpose, we create a ripple effect of positivity."
Sheela looked at Meera with admiration. "You have such clarity in your thoughts. It’s inspiring to hear you speak."
The two friends continued their conversation for hours, exchanging ideas and learning from each other. They felt a deeper bond and a renewed sense of purpose in their own lives. It was a day they would both cherish forever.
As Meera stepped off the plane in Delhi, a wave of emotions washed over her. She was filled with excitement to see her mother, but also deeply grateful for the unexpected friendship she had found with Sheela during the flight. Their conversation had been a beautiful journey of its own, full of shared wisdom and heartfelt connections.
With a warm hug, they promised to keep in touch, knowing that their paths had crossed for a reason. Meera felt lighter and more inspired, carrying with her the lessons and love she had gained from Sheela.
As she walked through the airport, Meera couldn't help but smile. She realized that life is full of such chance encounters that can touch our hearts and change us forever. With a heart full of gratitude and joy, she eagerly anticipated the reunion with her mother and the new beginnings that awaited her. This journey had been more than just a flight; it was a reminder of the beauty of human connections and the endless possibilities they bring.
