Why Compete With Others When You Can Compete With Yourself?

Compete not with others, but with the you of yesterday; growth blooms in self-reflection.
Do you ever feel like you’re in competition with someone? I believe the best competition is with your old self, not with others. Why? Because when you focus on improving yourself, you grow without the stress of rivalry.
Some people think rivals are helpful. In his book The Infinite Game, Simon Sinek talks about “worthy rivals.” These are people who are better at certain things and can teach us how to improve. Isn’t that interesting? Learning from others instead of feeling jealous sounds like a good idea.
But here’s the thing: I’m not a fan of rivalry. Why? Because rivalry can bring jealousy, and jealousy can lead to bad decisions. I believe it’s better to focus on your own journey. Competing with your old version helps you become a better person without comparing yourself to others.
So, what if we all tried to learn from others without feeling jealous? Wouldn’t that make life more peaceful? I believe the best way forward is to grow every day, not by beating others, but by becoming the best version of ourselves. What do you think?
